About the team
The Coles Own Brand Sustainable Sourcing team plays a critical role and pride themselves on building sustainable long-term supplier relationships and driving sustainable sourcing standards for improved sustainability outcomes to provide leading food, drink and home solutions that are delicious, sustainable and healthy for our customers.
You’ll find us working across all business units at Coles Supermarkets. Our team is passionate about working at the forefront of product stewardship and sustainability and leveraging our deep supplier relationships to drive material positive impact.
About the role
You will work closely with and report into the Lead Sustainable Sourcing Manager – Forests, Land & Agriculture to help deliver our Own Brand Sustainable Sourcing strategy. You will provide specialist technical advice in relation to the assurance and sourcing of Own Brand products with high impact commodities such as coffee, tea, cocoa, timber, pulp and paper, palm oil and soy, working across a varied stakeholder group inclusive of NGOs and suppliers.
You will also:
Deliver project leadership of sustainable sourcing standards that will drive improved sustainability credentials and stakeholder perceptions to support Coles’ ambition to become Australia’s most sustainable supermarket.
Develop, deliver and manage policies, guidelines and technical tools to support Coles Own Brand sustainable sourcing standards for high impact commodities such as Tea, Coffee, Cocoa, Palm Oil, Timber, Sugar, Wheat and Cotton etc .
Develop internal processes and implementation plans for the sustainable sourcing of Coles Own Brand high impact commodities, and report on implementation to the business and external organisations where required.
Manage Coles Illegal Logging Due Diligence Requirements.
Develop and implement Coles Own Brand forests and land environmental impact programs, such as certified/verified commodities and nature positive strategies (e.g. carbon reduction, water management and biodiversity improvements) in consideration of future reporting frameworks such as TNFD.
Develop and implement systems to measure performance working closely with the Coles Quality and Technical Standards team.

In turn, you will be able to have significant impact on supply chains to drive the positive sustainability outcomes of thousands of products Australia wide. The Sustainable Sourcing team are a passionate and friendly bunch who love to collaborate for the betterment of sustainability at Coles.
About you and your skills
We are looking for someone who has a strong understanding of environmental impacts in relation to food and fibre supply chains. A working knowledge of high impact commodity system sustainability risks is preferred such as biodiversity, climate and subsequent regulatory risks. The candidate should have developed project management, engagement and communication skills to help drive programme implementation.
You’ll also need:
Tertiary qualifications or industry experience in the sustainability, environment or product stewardship space
Policy, programme, and strategy development and implementation
Knowledge of high impact commodity sustainability risks
Project management and stakeholder management skills
Ability to work within a commercial, fast paced and complex environment
Strong inter-personal skills and proven ability to engage internal and external stakeholders
Strong planning and time management skills
