Albany Shellfish Hatchery is located 20 minutes from Albany on the Torndirrup Peninsula on the shores of King George Sound.
With stunning natural scenery and pristine seawater on our doorstep and a reliable production history over the last 30+ years, the hatchery is ideally situated to enter the next growth phase.
We currently supply spat to growout farmers around WA and we are just about to start supplying the east coast.
This role will encompass spawning and rearing of oyster larvae, culturing microalgae in a variety of systems and rearing the spat in our nursery.
Specific tasks will involve:
Follow the established protocols vital for the health and wellbeing of our shellfish, including performing routine maintenance such as cleaning tanks and filters.Ability to work collaboratively with other team members to achieve targets, but also able to operate independently when needed.Follow strict compliance of Biosecurity protocols to maintain the highest levels of hygiene.Adhere to strict health and safety guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and breakdowns.Previous shellfish hatchery experience and an aquaculture degree would be well regarded but are not essential as we will train the right candidate who is motivated and keen to learn.
While there is flexibility with rosters and we are a 7 day/week operation so weekend work is required.
