Data Engineer
Location: Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.
Duration: Months contract with possible extension
Security Clearance: Must be an Australian citizen and Must be able to obtain Baseline.
DFP Recruitment is seeking a Data Engineer for our Federal government Client. This role involves providing insights, solutions, and advice to decision-makers,
policymakers, and the market to enhance scheme operations and position the agency as a modern, efficient, and effective regulator.
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Support the Chief Data Officer and the agency in delivering the Data and Reporting Strategy to improve data governance.
2. Support business areas to improve data transparency under the organisation open data policy.
3. Promote and facilitate sharing of scheme data across Commonwealth agencies.
4. Provide a point of liaison between the Digital Services branch and business areas on the delivery of data services infrastructure under the Data Services Roadmap.
5. Build agency analytics capability, and utilise data analytics and geospatial analytics.
Role Responsibilities and Duties
6. Design, construct, and optimize data lakes, CI/CD, and Synapse pipelines within the Azure stack.
7. Develop scalable architecture practices for pipeline designs.
8. Lead data migration and integration for critical change programs.
9. Ensure data integrity and align engineering tasks with program objectives.
10. Mentor team members and drive new data engineering practices adoption.
11. Monitor and improve data service performance and costs.
12. Maintain documentation and adhere to data governance policies.
13. Research and innovate within the Azure data engineering field .
Qualifications/Experience
14. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
15. Certifications in Azure Data Services, such as the Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate.
16. 3+ years of experience in data engineering with a focus on Azure services.
17. Proven experience with Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse Analytics, and CI/CD pipelines.
18. Demonstrated ability to design and implement scalable data architectures.
19. Experience in data migration and managing large-scale data pipelines.
20. Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools within the Azure ecosystem.
21. Strong technical skills in SQL, Python, and R.
22. Proficiency in data modelling including reuse and scalability patterns.
23. Knowledge of Azure Monitor, Azure Security, and compliance frameworks.
24. Ability to work with cross-functional teams and lead technical projects.
25. Experience building data profiling, data cleansing and data engineering frameworks.
