Our activities range from:Identifying trends, deriving actionable insights,Formulating strategies and implementing associated improvement projectsSupporting operations to improve their data qualitySupporting and enhancing our suite of Power BI reportsUltimately, we want to use a data science and customer engagement approach to ensure we are working towards optimizing our multi-billion dollar spend on maintenance each year.As a Principal Data Scientist, you will be a key driver in building our strategy. Leveraging your mathematical background, a rich library of datasets and a global team of stakeholders, the Principal Data Scientist will develop and implement strategies for quantitative analysis of current opportunities, and predictions on future spend.Furthermore, the role functions as a key advisor to decision makers as we develop strategies to mitigate risk and improve outcomes for our customers.The Principal Data Scientist will be working collaboratively alongside Asset Management principals and partnering with operations and other business subject matter experts to level up BHP’s maintenance productivity.Reporting to Manager Budgeting Solution, your accountabilities include:Develop a framework and strategy to architect our data in line with other BHP data models.Investigate complex problems using a structured problem-solving approach.Work closely with stakeholders and SMEs to formulate asset management strategies from insights.Write code and conduct analysis utilising a range of technologies and techniques.Enable performance improvement by producing actionable insight from data.Confidently present ideas, results, and recommendations to stakeholders at all organisational levels.Support data quality through reviewing system error logs and actioning as appropriate.Support Power BI reporting suite, including making improvements to support data strategy.About YouAs a successful candidate you will have a related tertiary qualification and demonstrated experience in supporting business improvement strategies and initiatives.You will:Have strong mathematical, critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.Be able to take a voice of customer (hypothesis) and interrogate data to clarify and prove/reject.Have experience programming in Python and SQL to:Build descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive modellingPerform structured and unstructured data miningApply machine learning and statistical modelling techniquesBe customer focused and a collaborative team player.Other highly regarded experience includes:Experience in exploring and proposing new ideas that may have benefits for the business.Asset Management experience in mining, manufacturing, or similar heavy industry.Experience working in engineering and/or management consulting.Proficiency in Spanish language.Location and RosterThis is a permanent role to be based at our Australia corporate offices in Brisbane, Perth or Adelaide, working Monday to Friday.Flexible working options are available, with an expectation of at least 3 days per week in the office.
