ACT for Kids, based at James Cook University in Townsville, is seeking a passionate and dedicated teacher for a specialist role supporting our program for children impacted by trauma. This opportunity will involve providing intervention services directly in schools across the localised Townsville area, particularly focusing on students who have been affected by abuse and/or neglect. This role is designed to complement the ACT for Kids Therapy Service and supports a multi-disciplinary approach aimed at improving the outcomes and well-being of children who have experienced trauma. The role will require frequent travel across the Townsville region and may involve outreach to more remote schools in the area.

About the Role:
Your role will be pivotal in identifying students affected by trauma at home and providing targeted support in a school setting.
* Identifying students impacted by trauma and working directly in schools to deliver intervention activities
* Implementing trauma-informed practices in the classroom to support students' engagement with the educational environment
* Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, including psychologists, speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, social workers, and nurses, to ensure a holistic approach to student well-being and academic outcomes
* Regular visits to local and remote schools in the Townsville area
* Working with students up to the age of 18 who are enrolled in state schools
Key Responsibilities:
* Support students in overcoming barriers to learning caused by trauma
* Deliver a multi-disciplinary approach that aligns with the Australian Curriculum
* Collaborate with the ACT for Kids Therapy Service to ensure coordinated care and support for students
* Work in partnership with other educators and professionals to enhance student outcomes
* Provide targeted intervention strategies based on the individual needs of students affected by trauma
Ideal Candidate:
* Experience and training in trauma-informed practices (knowledge of trauma and its impact on learning is highly regarded)
* A strong understanding of the Australian Curriculum and its application for students impacted by abuse or neglect
* Experience working in the education sector, particularly with students experiencing trauma, or a demonstrated interest in this area
* A passion for supporting vulnerable children and helping them overcome barriers to education
* Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
* A positive and proactive approach to engaging with students, families, and school staff
Support and Professional Development:
* Ongoing professional development and training with ACT for Kids
* Mentorship and collaboration with another Education Specialist Teacher
