The Opportunity
We are seeking a trainee journalist to join our award-winning digital-first newsroom.
This role offers on-the-job experience in all facets of news, including local council, politics, courts and crime, regional sport, feature stories, and property.
You will have the opportunity to experiment with data visualisation, social video, and photography, while also developing your traditional news skills in new and innovative ways of storytelling.
Key Responsibilities:
* Gain experience in reporting on local news, including council meetings, court cases, and community events.
* Develop your skills in data journalism, using data visualisation tools to tell engaging stories.
* Produce high-quality content for our online platforms, including articles, videos, and social media posts.
* Work collaboratively with other journalists and production staff to deliver news content.
Training and Development:
We offer an excellent training program, led by one of Australia's best editorial trainers, as well as regular masterclasses offered by some of the best regional journalists in the country.
Location:
The role is based in Ballarat, a thriving provincial city that offers an excellent cafe culture, arts, medical, and education facilities.
