VMO - Obstetrician & GynaecologistBallarat and opportunity to do extra work in StawellFixed term part time with opportunity to extend to permanent hours – 28.25 hours per week Availability on Mondays & Fridays strongly preferred About the role The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Grampians Health Services provides inpatient and outpatient services for the women of Ballarat, Horsham and surrounding regions.
Clinics offered in this service include antenatal care, gestational diabetes, high risk pregnancy care, surgical gynaecology, colposcopy, and family planning.
The service at Ballarat births approximately 1500 women annually and is a level 5 maternity service with a special care nursery capability caring for babies from 32 weeks' gestation.
Approximately 300 gynaecological operations are performed per year.

VMO Obstetrics and Gynaecology works closely with other members of the obstetric and gynaecology team including midwifery, nursing, allied health and other obstetric and gynaecology consultants as well as junior medical staff in the provision of high standard obstetrics and gynaecology management to patients in the region.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to do extra work in gynaecology lists and/or clinics in Stawell, depending on unit requirements and pending capability requirements for patients being approved.
Clinical Duties Operating session as per agreed weekly timetable to cover obstetrics and gynaecology patients on the waiting list.
This may include LUSCS lists (including complex caesareans).Obstetrics: Participate in birth suite consultant cover, maternity antenatal clinic and the obstetric on call roster as rostered.Supervise and teach junior medical staff in obstetrics.Work collaboratively within the team including with midwives, general practitioners, paediatricians, anaesthetists, social workers, and any staff involved in patient care.Gynaecology: Participate in gynaecology clinic, on call consultant duties day and night as rostered including care of emergency gynaecology patients, operating suite duties as rostered.
Teach and supervise junior medical staff in gynaecology.Be available exclusively for Grampians Health services when rostered as the on-call consultant.
During the day, it is expected that the rostered consultant is on site in the hospital from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.
During the evening and overnight, it is expected the rostered consultant is available for phone advice and to attend the hospital within 20 minutes of being requested to.
The on-call consultant must attend if requested to by junior medical staff onsite or if requested to by the midwife in charge of the birth suite.Assist with effective bed management and discharge planning for patients throughout Grampians Health Services.Benefits Grampians Health Services is the largest employer in the region and boasts many great staff benefits that include:
