Job Title: Ecologist
Job Description
A day in this role will be spent working on field-based ecology surveys, including vegetation mapping, ecological monitoring, targeted threatened flora and fauna survey and Vegetation Quality Assessments using the DEECA Habitat Hectares method.
You'll have the opportunity to lead projects across a wide range of ecological disciplines and clients, with the chance to mentor junior team members.
Key responsibilities will include ecological impact assessment and offsetting for a range of projects and scales, supporting internal clients with delivering the ecological requirements within multi-disciplinary tenders and projects, and working independently or with other ecologists and professionals in the planning, delivery and management of ecology surveys.
Analysis and evaluation of results, impact assessments, and the design and implementation of successful mitigation strategies are also key components of the role.
Qualifications
We're looking for individuals with a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related field, with working knowledge of Victorian and Commonwealth environmental legislation (e.g., EPBC Act, FFG Act, Planning and Environment Act).
Proficiency in vegetation surveys across various Victorian environments, habitat assessments (VQA accreditation desirable), and GIS tools such as ESRI FieldMaps is also essential.
Strong experience in habitat and protected species surveys, efficient data recording, and a valid Victorian driver's license, with the ability to work outdoors on extended field programs, is highly desired.
Previous professional consultancy experience in ecology or equivalent NGO/academic background is also an advantage.
