Job Description
The Engagement and Communications Manager is responsible for leading the strategic vision and operational functions of the Communications Team, promoting Wuchopperen's brand and services, ensuring that content effectively engages and connects with Community.
Purpose of the Role
* To ensure that Wuchopperen gains an innovative, best practice communication and engagement strategy that accords with organisational vision and values.
* To improve health outcomes by driving health promotion campaigns, using the most appropriate messaging, communication channels and methods (internally and externally).
* To improve organisational standing and reputation, particularly within Cairns' Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community.
* To advance the integrity and reputation of our brand across all available platforms.
* Manage media relations and develop contacts and genuine relationships with media members, influencers, Community leaders, sister Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations, and other appropriate stakeholders.
* Develop health promotion campaigns and initiatives that confidently and effectively represent the organisation's brand, promoting the organisation, its people, and services.
* Plan and facilitate the coordination of events (both large and small scale) and ensure communication strategies are timely, relevant and culturally appropriate.
* Prepare, plan and coordinate the publication of promotion materials ensuring quality of content, production and delivery.
* Provide quality leadership and supervision to coach and guide the development of the Communications Coordinator and Communications Officer.
* Oversee the production of compelling narratives through digital, print, and multimedia assets, inspiring and engaging the Community to utilise services to improve health outcomes.
* Optimise Wuchopperen's online presence through content management, Search Engine Optimisation and Search Engine Marketing (SEO/SEM) where appropriate, and measure effectiveness through reporting and data analysis.
* Provide advice to management regarding opportunities to improve internal and external communications and lead projects to ensure continual quality improvement.
* Gather and record statistical data relevant to measuring performance against agreed indicators and participate in review and evaluation activities.
* Participate in organisational and community activities to advance the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Requirements
* Proven leadership capacity with demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate an effective, organisational Communications & Engagement Strategy.
* Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and cultures from an historical and contemporary perspective, including the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
* Demonstrated ability to manage projects, and design and implement marketing and communication campaigns to effectively promote organisational events and services.
* Extensively developed interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders as well as effectively advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment, prioritise and meet deadlines, deal with matters of a sensitive and confidential nature.
Qualifications and Experience
* An appropriate tertiary qualification in journalism, marketing, public relations, communications or similar.
* At least 5 years relevant industry experience (ideally in a leadership capacity).
Working Conditions
* This is an office-based role.
* However, at times the role requires physical effort and application (potentially for extended periods) including walking, lifting, pulling, reaching, carrying objects up to 10kgs, driving a vehicle and other manual handling tasks.
