The Mine Act Inspectorate (MAI) within the Resources Regulator (part of NSW Resources) are looking for a Principal Operations Manager to join the team.
About the role:
As Principal Operations Manager you will be leading the operational teams responsible for day-to-day regulatory and advisory functions related to prospecting operations and mining rehabilitation under the Mining Act 1992, Petroleum (Onshore) Act 1991 and associated Regulations.
You’ll provide direction and promote best practice across assessment of rehabilitation outcomes and exploration performance, exploration activity approvals under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and related assessment functions regarding rehabilitation securities.
Key responsibilities include:
* Leading and managing the delivery of operational and regulatory functions to promote strong rehabilitation outcomes.
* Managing regulatory activities and reviews, ensuring the overall integrity of assessments, investigations and approvals processes, including prioritization, quality control and timely completion of matters in accordance with legislative and policy requirements.
* Providing detailed, accurate and timely advice, briefs, submissions, reports and recommendations to the Senior Executive team on statutory matters, reviews, complaints and operational regulatory matters/issues to support informed and defensible decision making and minimise potential adverse impacts.
* Monitoring, managing and reviewing work allocation, workload and workflow to ensure the team is operating efficiently and effectively, meeting their commitments, deadlines and service delivery standards.
The role will draw upon your exceptional leadership and influencing skills as well as your demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with industry and community stakeholders.
To be successful you’ll need:
Extensive knowledge and understanding of mining related environmental impacts, mitigation techniques and current environmental management best practices with respect to mining.
You’ll also need extensive leadership experience in operational and delivery roles, ideally within an environmental management or regulatory environment.
Things to know about the role:
* You need to have relevant tertiary qualification and leadership experience in a regulatory environment (or qualifications deemed by the Department to be equivalent).
* You must hold and maintain a current Class C driver licence and have the willingness and ability to travel throughout NSW.
* Compliance with pre-employment probity screening is mandatory and a condition of engagement.
* Appointment will be subject to the satisfactory participation in a pre-employment health assessment.
