About This Opportunity
UQ Vets Urgent Care department is expanding our Small Animal Hospital nursing team and is seeking for an enthusiastic, qualified Nurse Coordinator for the Urgent Care Nursing and Support Team. You will play a key role in staff development and training, scheduling, and ensuring adherence to hospital policies and procedures.

With 24/7 nursing support for our patients, you will collaborate with experienced veterinarians and support staff while also supporting the hands-on training of Veterinary Science and Veterinary Technology students.
This position features a rotating shift roster, including days, afternoons, overnights, weekends, and public holidays, with competitive remuneration.
Key responsibilities will include:
4. Provide skilful and professional support to a large team of veterinary staff, including veterinary specialists.
5. Supervise, mentor and support VTH’s Veterinary technicians/ nurses and Nurse Interns.
6. Coordinate effectively and efficiently the daily activity of a specific service and/or area within the VTH.
7. Assess, monitor, treat and maintain excellent husbandry standards for patients in ICU, surgery, isolation and hospital wards.
8. Liaise confidently and competently with a large team of veterinarians, veterinary specialists and support staff regarding patient treatment and care.
9. Communicate confidently and competently with other VTH coordinators, staff and students to ensure the smooth running of the VTH.
10. Provide a high standard of clinical training/teaching support for the School’s training/teaching of veterinary and veterinary technology students.
11. Undertake correct care, cleaning and maintenance of technical and specialised instrumentation and equipment.
12. Adhere to SOPs (standard operating procedures) for Nursing and develop and maintain SOPs relevant to a specific service within the VTH.
13. Use practice management software to support the efficient administration and business management requirements.
14. Assist with radiography, Computer Tomography, Scintigraphy and M.R.I. procedures
15. Competently perform diagnostic clinical pathology techniques.
16. Assist with management of dispensary inventory, including stock levels, prices and stock take, using the practice management software.
17. Provide a high level of customer service to clinic clients, veterinary students, staff and other external clients, both by phone and in person.
18. Provide administrative support to all clinic staff as required and assist with reception duties as required in an efficient and effective manner.
19. Carry out other duties as required by the Nurse Manager, Deputy Nurse, Local VTH Manager or Operations Manager
As a 24-hour operation, your take-home salary will be dependent on your specific roster, including loadings of 50% for weekend shifts, 25% for night shifts, and 15% for afternoon shifts.
Afternoon shifts are shifts commencing at or after midday and finishing at or before midnight, Night Shift are shifts extending beyond midnight and finishing at or before 6AM. About You
28. Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing and/or Bachelor of Applied Science (Veterinary Technology) and/or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology or equivalent.
29. A postgraduate qualification in Veterinary Nursing or relevant specialist qualification is desirable
30. Demonstrated experience working as a senior technician within the VTH, or another large clinic.
31. Demonstrated ability to deliver and maintain high standards of professional veterinary nursing in all areas of nursing.
32. Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise and mentor staff.
33. Be able to work independently within their service and have the proven ability to establish effective working relationships within a team.
34. Demonstrated ability to work flexibly with the use of initiative and autonomy.
35. Good written and oral communication skills, including high level organisational skills and demonstrated ability to use these skills in managing professional & operational relationships with colleagues, clients and students.
36. Knowledge of ethical requirements, relevant policies and procedures, including workplace health and safety, employment equity and anti-discrimination.
37. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and excellence in the field of veterinary technology and nursing.
38. Interest in the clinical teaching of veterinary and veterinary technology professionals in training.
39. Possess or be able to apply for a radiation license.
