ABOUT YOU
You have a real passion for communicating science to various audience groups and enjoy thinking about creative ways to communicate complex data and disease state concepts. You will have the ability to research, strategically plan and write both technical and creative content for a range of marketing collateral across a spectrum of health-related brands and audiences. A strong desire to jump in and contribute at all levels is critical, as this is a collaborative team-based entrepreneurial environment. You have the ability and desire to work in a fast-paced environment where connection amongst local and global scientists, client engagement teams, strategists, creatives, technologists and clients is key to success. RESPONSIBILITIES
The Principal Medical Writer works alongside the Managing Director, scientific team and client engagement leads to manage the medical/scientific/clinical portfolio across the brands within the health business. The Principal Medical Writer plays a key role contributing to the development of strategy and scientific content across multiple therapeutic areas and capabilities including medical education, HCP promotion, patient engagement and disease state awareness. The Principal Medical Writer develops and manages content deliverables, assists client engagement with building business organically, leads scientific aspects for RFPs and new business pitches.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Interpret, evaluate and communicate complex scientific data in a variety of formats and channels
2. Contribute to, and demonstrate an in-depth understanding of clients’ strategies and be able to have discussions related to strategy and the science behind brands and disease states
3. Develop key messaging, core claims and positioning platforms
4. Develop scientific content for deliverables, through outline development, writing of drafts, reviewing of content developed by others, and discussion about content with clients and healthcare professionals
5. Establish trust and confidence with clients by demonstrating pharmaceutical industry expertise, drive, and experience delivering on communication strategy
6. Develop communication plans and recommend new programs/tactics that align with business objectives, based upon knowledge of product marketing strategy and brand lifecycle
7. Design and develop medical education programs that are transformative and drive behaviour change
8. Cultivate relationships with key opinion leaders and healthcare professionals, including stakeholder management, facilitation of steering committees, advisory boards and workshops
9. Work with client engagement to continually identify proactive opportunities for clients to achieve communication objectives
10. Develop and upload reference packs for agency-produced materials to clinical papers/sources and manage stakeholder reviews
11. Develop and confidently conduct presentations at meetings with clients and healthcare professionals
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
1. Advanced science degree (preferably PhD, BPharm, MD)
2. 6+ years of relevant experience in healthcare communication/pharmaceutical marketing (Rx, OTC, medical devices)
3. Medical education experience, promotional and non-promotional (accreditation training preferred)
4. Experience leading persuasive medical strategy/content for new business opportunities
5. Strong strategic, analytical and effective problem-solving skills
6. Strong attention to detail, scientific accuracy with a focus on quality assurance
7. Excellent presentation and facilitation skills
8. Ability to successfully manage multiple projects/initiatives in a deadline-driven environment
9. Ability to manage workload of self and others with minimal supervision
10. Understanding of industry regulatory environment and compliance requirements
11. Life-long learner with demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement
