The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Senior Legal Policy Officer to provide a critical role within the new Tobacco Regulation Program team.About the Business Unit The Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) provides a range of government programs and services focused on improving community safety, victim services, regulatory services and crime prevention, and building strong collaboration across the justice system.Located in the Integrity, Regulation and Legal Services (IRLS) group, the Tobacco Regulation Project (TRP) has been established to deliver the Victorian Government's commitment to implement a tobacco regulation and licensing scheme.About the Role Reporting to the Director, Legislation, Policy and Engagement, the Senior Legal Policy Officer will co-ordinate, develop, implement, and review policy and legislation to support the establishment of the tobacco regulator and licensing scheme.As the Senior Legal Policy Officer, some of your duties will include: Developing and implementing legal policy proposals.Providing considered, informed and authoritative advice to stakeholders on key policy and legislation issues.Developing and implementing comprehensive plans to support effective consultation and engagement.Managing the preparation and lodgement of cabinet and parliamentary documentation including legislative and regulatory instruments.Identifying emerging sensitive issues, opportunities, risks and trends and providing insightful analysis and advice. To learn more about this role before applying, please read the attached position description.About you To be successful in this role, you will have: Experience in providing authoritative legal policy advice and developing and implementing significant and complex program or policy initiatives.Sound knowledge of and/or experience in Victorian Government legislative, cabinet and administrative processes, and policy development.Demonstrated ability to analyse complex operational, policy and legal issues, interpret legislation and provide accurate legal solutions.A relevant tertiary qualification in law would be highly desirable.
