Role As a key member of the Leadership Team of the school, Assistant House Leaders will be required to participate as team members supporting staff to work effectively within the House and across the school to implement learning programs. The focus of the Assistant House Leaders work is supporting the staff and teaching teams in the houses to plan effectively for student learning, reflect on their practice, focus on improving student outcomes and work collaboratively as a team. The Assistant House Leader will implement school curriculum programs to provide optimum conditions for student learning and the achievement of excellence. Assistant House Leaders also work closely with other members of the House Leadership Team to ensure the smooth operation of the house and the wellbeing of staff and students. Responsibilities The Assistant House Leader will have the following responsibilities: The demonstration of excellence as a classroom teacher particularly in relation to collaborative learning and teaching. Leading the development and implementation of the school¿s Instructional Model, in line with the VTLM 2.0 Coaching staff to enhance individual practice and building their professional capabilities through the development of reflective practice within the house The provision of support for and delivery of Professional Learning to staff within the House and across the school that focuses on improving student learning outcomes Work with the Professional Practice Team and Professional Practice Partnerships to support the development of innovative and reflective teaching practice Assist and support the House Leader in development of the House- Whole School Responsibilities Together with the House Leader, build a House culture and team spirit and in particular fosters the development of student leadership and celebrates student achievement With the House Leadership take responsibility for the physical House environment ensuring that the House is at all times presented in a manner that fosters and celebrates student learning and outstanding achievement Participation in School Leadership Team and in the development, implementation and evaluation of the Annual Implementation Plan and School Strategic Plan Share responsibility for the learning, engagement and wellbeing needs of students, and working collaboratively with parents to achieve positive outcomes Assist the Student Engagement Coordinator when required with managing students within the house to ensure students meet the school expectations Who May Apply Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. Location Profile Established in 1919 Dandenong High School is one of the oldest, largest and most culturally diverse secondary schools in the state. It is situated in the South East Region in Dandenong, a low socio economic community (SFO density 0.72) with a high refugee population. The school has over 1500 students and is highly multicultural with 78 nationalities and 80 different language groups represented. In 2008 Dandenong High School merged with two other schools in the local community and is currently undergoing a major school redevelopment and a $45 million dollar funding program. In order to ensure that students develop a sense of belonging and connectedness to the school, the school has a unique structure housing its students in 7 House building on one site. Each House holds 250 students from Years 7 - 12, 25 teaching staff, a House Leadership team of 3 and an administration officer. Students in Years 7 - 10 learn primarily in the House in architecturally designed learning spaces. The school has an innovative approach to curriculum with a collaborative learning model in Years 7 - 9.
