The Legal Division
The Legal Division is an award-winning, high performing and engaged cross-disciplinary team of lawyers, rights experts, archivists and information governance specialists. Our purpose is to provide proactive, enabling advice and support to manage risk and contribute to SBS to achieving its goals. Wellbeing is part of our job!
The Role
Reporting to a Senior Legal Counsel, this part time role (3 days per week) will see you providing legal advice, support and leadership in relation to industrial relations and employment matters, including:
1. Providing expert, proactive and enabling legal advice on a wide range of employment and industrial relations matters,
2. Supporting and working closely with the People & Culture team to advise and guide management of complex employment matters, including those requiring engagement with industrial tribunals and courts.
3. Providing legal and strategic support in relation to the development of SBS employment frameworks and policies, including under the SBS Enterprise Agreement and other Modern Awards.
4. Briefing external lawyers and barristers, and independent workplace investigators where necessary.
5. Engaging with all SBS teams to develop and provide legal training and resources on employment matters, including contributing to knowledge sharing within the legal team.
As part of a centralised legal team, the role will contribute to providing first class and enabling legal support and advice to all SBS teams and will be the central point of contact for employment legal matters.
About You
If you are a first-rate lawyer with 4 to 6 years PQE, strong practical experience and knowledge of employment law, industrial relations and procedure, preferably within an in-house environment, we would love to hear from you!
You are an excellent communicator and have an enabling and collaborative approach to the provision of legal advice.
You are curious about the world around you, love connecting with others, have a passion for the media, and capacity to learn and share knowledge.
It is a requirement of this role that incumbents are fully vaccinated with an approved Covid-19 vaccination in line with the ATAGI guidelines which include booster shots. We do however have a medical exemption process and we would be happy to discuss your application should this be applicable to you.
