Principal Civil Engineer - Mining & MetalsRequisition ID:282652Relocation Authorized:NoneTelework Type:Part-Time TeleworkWork Location:Brisbane, QLDJob Summary:In this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project’s civil aspects where you will lead design, development, modification, evaluation, and constructability reviews of civil components and processes. Your technical expertise will ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s civil/structural aspects are met.This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.Major Responsibilities:Plans and conducts independent Civil work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of Civil engineering techniques, procedures and criteria on a medium size project or assignment in support of a global business unit for civil works on green field and brown field projects.Leads the design, development, modification, and evaluation of Civil components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) and Design Control Check List (DCCL) and Design Review Notices (DRNs).Reviews and approves key engineering drawings and calculations and bid summaries.Designs structures using advanced knowledge of civil engineering in the areas of hydrology, hydraulics, road design and pavement design, geotechnical and earthworks.Determines the appropriate use of various structural elements such as steel, wood, masonry, and concrete to ensure appropriate material is used based on load or stress requirements.Originates and checks complex Civil engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions.Coordinates and interfaces as directed with the day-to-day technical work of personnel.Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management.Develops conceptual designs for Civil engineering projects or projects having specialized or unique requirements.Supports preparation of estimates, staffing needs and schedules.Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and supports implementation and assists with performance reporting.Coordinates with client representatives, as directed, to obtain their approval of Civil aspects of the work.Conducts or leads special studies of new Civil engineering methods, materials and techniques.Mentors Civil engineering personnel by providing on-the-job training for their professional development.Education and Experience Requirements:Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 15+ years of relevant experience.Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ).Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Demonstrated experience as a Civil Engineer, preferably within mining and metals industry.Considered highly skilled and proficient in Civil Engineering discipline.Seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization, resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways.Working Rights in Australia without employer sponsorship are required.
