About the Role
The Rural Outreach Worker role is designed to enhance service capacity in rural communities by providing immediate support to individuals in psychological distress or showing early signs of mental health issues. This role focuses on early intervention, helping individuals access necessary services quickly to prevent crises and ensuring they receive timely care and support.
The Rural Outreach Worker does not provide therapeutic or clinical interventions, their responsibility is to respond to the person’s immediate needs and connect them with the service or supports that best meets their need.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide timely support and appropriate referrals for clients, particularly those at risk of suicide.
* Plan and manage day-to-day work independently, using initiative and discretion while aligning with established priorities.
* Respond to the needs of family, work mates and other community members who are dealing with the loss of someone they know.
* Maintain strict confidentiality in all matters related to the program and client interactions.
Skills & Experience
* Valid Victorian Driver's License and willingness to travel.
* Strong understanding of suicide prevention strategies with a focus on client-centered services.
* Experience in delivering social support services, particularly in mental health.
* Familiarity with Wimmera Southern Mallee communities, families, and local services.
* Mental Health First Aid certification is desirable.
