Package valued in excess of $135,000 including:
1. Base annual salary of between $85,235 - $116,780

The Indian Ocean Territories Administration (IOTA) is seeking a motivated, professional, suitably qualified person to join our team as a Mechanical Technician within the Indian Ocean Territories Power Service (IOTPS) based on Christmas Island. The IOTPS is the recognised Network Operator for the Indian Ocean Territories and is responsible for the generation and distribution of a safe, reliable and efficient electricity supply to residential, commercial and industrial consumers on Christmas and Cocos (Keeling) Islands. IOTPS provides regulatory compliance in collaboration with the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety.
The key responsibilities of the Mechanical Technician are to carry out inspection, preventative maintenance, repair, overhaul, modification, installation and testing of heavy duty diesel power generators; and maintain, service and repair power station auxiliary equipment. They will fault find, read and understand General Arrangement and Piping and Instrumentation drawings; maintain maintenance and inspection records in paper and computerised formats; and maintain a safe working environment at all times.
Our ideal candidate possesses a diesel mechanic, mechanical fitting or mechanical trade qualification. They have proven knowledge and experience in the operation and maintenance of four-stroke diesel driven equipment. They have the ability to communicate effectively through oral and written communication, able to follow instructions and read and understand job safety procedures and undertake some administrative work under direction. They will possess an understanding of, and a strong commitment to, occupational health and safety, quality and environmental principles in an industrial environment.
Applicants with a proven ability to live and work in a small, remote and/or multi-cultural community; and within a small multi-skilled workforce; with demonstrated experience and knowledge of working in a medium speed diesel power generation plant and working with power generating equipment and auxiliaries; and demonstrates initiative and the capacity to embrace change will be well regarded.
Applicants must hold a current Drivers Licence transferable to the Indian Ocean Territories; and will be subject to pre-employment screening and health assessment.
