SAHMRI Women and Kids Theme
At the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), we are committed to achieving innovative, ground-breaking health and medical research that fundamentally improves the quality of life for all people. The SAHMRI Women and Kids Theme focuses on improving the health and wellbeing of women, children and families, particularly those most at risk of poor health outcomes.
The Biostatistician will join the SAHMRI Biostatistics Unit, based in the SAHMRI Women and Kids Theme. We are an established team of consulting biostatisticians, post-doctoral researchers and PhD students committed to improving the statistical quality of health research. Working at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, the Biostatistician will work under the supervision of a senior team member to provide statistical expertise to support clinical trials and other research conducted within the SAHMRI Women and Kids Theme, across SAHMRI and externally.
About the role
Key responsibilities of the Biostatistician include:
* Write statistical analysis plans
* Perform sample size/power calculations
* Clean and maintain complex datasets
* Provide advice on study design, data collection tools and analysis methods
* Write clearly documented statistical programs
* Perform statistical analyses and prepare analysis reports
* Contribute to scientific publications
* Keep up to date with new statistical methods
About You
The successful candidate will possess the following key attributes:
* A tertiary qualification in statistics or close equivalent (Masters or Doctoral level degree desirable)
* Experience programming in a statistical package (Stata/R or similar)
* In-depth understanding of statistical theory
* Excellent attention to detail
* Ability to clearly communicate statistical concepts to non-statisticians
* Efficient time management skills to effectively work across multiple projects and meet deadlines
* Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and build effective working relationships with colleagues
* Ability to undertake independent research/study to learn new statistical methods
* Some workplace experience in statistics is desirable

* DCSI Working with Children Check is required.
