About the role
We are searching for a dedicated chef to work in a private girls' boarding school near the city centre of Hobart, Tasmania. The school is home to 50 boarders & staff. The operation also includes the running of two student café/canteens. Reporting to the Chef Manager, the successful applicant will be responsible for preparing nutritious and high-quality meals, assisting on College functions, ensuring Food Safety & Kitchen Hygiene, WHS compliance, and supporting the Chef Manager.
College functions range from working group lunches to cocktail parties to sit-down formal events.
* Hours of employment: 35 hours per week (Full-time role).
* Monday to Friday shifts only.
* Weekend and Public Holiday Loadings apply if worked.
* Occasional weekend or weekday evening work may be required to manage functions.
*The applicant must have a Valid Working with Vulnerable People Check from Service TAS, or be willing to apply for one.*
Skills and experience
* 3+ years' experience in a similar role.
* Cert III in commercial cookery desirable.
* Reliable and punctual.
* Collaborative and team player.
* Ability to multi-task and perform work within deadlines.
* Experienced in ordering, delivery, and handling/control of stock.
* Empathy and respect towards staff and clients.
* High level of QA, WH&S, HACCP, and Food Safety knowledge.
Key responsibilities
* Ability to produce high-quality meals in line with food service/HACCP guidelines and Quality Assurance procedures, including low and high care residents.
* Assisting in menu design, changes, and implementation.
* Assist with putting away of deliveries and general kitchen clean-up duties.
* Responsible for preparation of special diets.
* Excellent organization skills and the ability to multi-task.
* Function within a busy kitchen whilst working harmoniously with the team.
