BDAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO) registered with the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO) and represented nationally through the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO).
Our Mission
We aim to provide services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living on Djaara Country, ensuring growth of services, development of our community, better health outcomes, improved quality of life, and self-determination employment and career pathways.
About the Program
In 2018, BDAC began taking on the authorisation of Aboriginal children and their siblings under Section 18 of the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005. This allows for decisions about these children's Child Protection Orders to be made by an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation.
The ACAC Program
The program aims to deliver culturally informed investigation of child protection reports and offer culturally appropriate support for families, strengthening Aboriginal families and reducing over-representation in child protection and care.
About the Position
The Team Leader will lead a team of five staff within the ACAC program, providing high-quality supervision and support to staff working with children, families, and community to promote safety, stability, and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and supervise a team of staff using a strengths approach
* Exercise authorities and legal delegations under section 18 of the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005
* Establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders
* Monitor key performance indicators to ensure effective service delivery
* Prepare and oversee documentation for court proceedings
About You
We are seeking someone with:
* An understanding of an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation environment and local Aboriginal Community
* A commitment to strength-based practice and supervision
* Expert knowledge of the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 and the Child Wellbeing Act 2005
* Demonstrated self-care and resilience to supporting staff in crisis situations
* Proven skills in decision-making and high-pressure situations
