As the Government Relations Senior Manager, reporting to the Director of Policy and Research, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the organisation's relationship with the government and navigating the complex intersection of business interests and public policy. You will also be responsible for developing submissions to government inquiries and consultations.

This permanent position will ideally be based in either Canberra or Sydney. As Commonwealth Entity, you'll have the accountability to make decisions and advise from a commercial mindset, without the rigid hierarchy typically found in the APS. You will understand the government policy landscape, how strategic policy interacts with the private sector, the machinery of government, and senate estimates. You will be proactive and collaborative, customer-focused, and able to think on your feet and adapt in an environment where individuals are empowered to thrive and collaborate towards common goals.
Key Responsibilities
* Build and maintain relationships with key government officials, agencies, and regulators at all levels
* Proactively identify, foster, and manage political, departmental other and stakeholder relationships
* Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and advise internal stakeholders on potential impacts
* Advocate for policies aligning with the organisation's interests and serve as a liaison with government stakeholders to communicate its positions effectively
* Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and reporting requirements
* Develop strategies to engage with government stakeholders to achieve goals
* Manage crises or controversies that may arise involving government stakeholders
* Collaborate with PR and communications teams on government relations messaging and campaigns.
In addition to proven experience in government relations or public affairs, with a track record of successfully engaging with government stakeholders, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
* Experience in advocating for policies and regulations aligned with organisational interests and objectives
* Background in policy analysis or legislative affairs, monitoring and analysing legislative and regulatory changes
* Experience ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and reporting requirements
* Experience developing and implementing strategic plans for government stakeholder engagement
* Strong communication skills, serving as a primary contact between the organisation and government stakeholders.
* Ability to managing crises or controversies involving government stakeholders, including regulatory and public policy issues
* Australian citizenship
