These laboratories serve as key facilities for research projects in chemical engineering and metallurgy, as well as for undergraduate lab teaching classes and final-year projects.
As a Technical Specialist, you will be at the forefront of managing day-to-day operations for laboratories, workshops, and research facilities, providing high level technical support and leadership by ensuring optimal resource allocation across all disciplines within the school, including Chemical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Mining Engineering, and Metallurgical Engineering.
You will play a vital role in enhancing safety and compliance in laboratory environments, contributing to a culture of excellence in education and research and impact future generations by supporting students and ensuring high standards in teaching delivery.

What we're looking for: Qualifications: A degree in a relevant discipline, such as Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field with considerable relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
Technical Expertise: Comprehensive understanding of Chemical Engineering and Metallurgy principles, with practical experience in applying these concepts in laboratory and research settings.
Proficient in the operation and maintenance of a wide range of analytical instruments, including ICPOES/MS, GC-MS, AAS, TGA, HPLC, FTIR, and Elemental Analyser, among others.
Familiarity with teaching rigs for undergraduate courses, including Reaction Engineering, Mass Transfer, Heat Transfer, and Process Control.
Leadership and Training: Proven ability to provide technical leadership, training, and support to students and staff in a laboratory or teaching environment.
Experience in designing and delivering technical training programs.
Health and Safety: Comprehensive knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) practices and regulations.
Commitment to maintaining a safe laboratory environment and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
Expertise in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures, comprehensive risk assessment frameworks, and safe work procedures to ensure operational efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance in laboratory environments.
Communication and Teamwork: Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively and effectively with academic staff, technical teams, and students.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, accurate, and concise documentation and procedural guides.
Problem-Solving and Innovation: Ability to research, conceptualize, and evaluate innovative techniques to improve laboratory practicals and research outcomes.
Analytical skills to interpret experimental results and report findings.
