Mount Gibson's flagship operation is the Koolan Island mine, located approximately 140km north of Derby in the Buccaneer Archipelago in the Kimberley.
The mine is Australia's highest-grade producer of direct-shipping grade hematite, with an average Ore Reserve grade of 65.5% Fe.

About the role:We are now seeking to employ an experienced Health, Safety and Training Superintendent at our Koolan Island Operation on an 8 Days On / 6 Day Off (12-hour day) roster from Perth, Broome or Derby.Reporting directly to the Health, Safety and Training Manager, the primary focus of this role is to lead and coach a team of Health, Safety, Emergency Services and Training personnel to deliver on reactive and proactive objectives, while overseeing an agreed strategic delivery plan that delivers increased capabilities and builds business resilience across the Koolan Island site.
Key tasks and responsibilities Supporting the Health, Safety and Training Manager with the work they do.
Manages the site MSMS under the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 / Work Health and Safety Mining Regulations 2022 Lead the Koolan Island Fatality and Injury Prevention Program(s) Driving site-based improvement and compliance in Health, Hygiene, Safety, Wellbeing, Emergency Response, Medical and Training areas.
Providing coaching, advice and guidance to the site leadership group Ensuring relevant plans, procedures, SWI's and guidelines are created and maintained Leading the Emergency Services team (ESC, Site Medic and Physiotherapist) to deliver a professional service to a remote location.
Assisting other departments in developing inspection and auditing programs.
Support corporate audits and conduct DMIRS high impact audits to identify corrective actions.
Lead the site Risk Register and oversee corrective actions and risk mitigation controls.
Manage statutory reporting systems, including SRS.
To be successful in this role, you'll need: Working knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act / Regulations Strong coaching and negotiation skills Ability to challenge the norm and think outside the box.
Good communication skills are critical to the success of the role Ability to conduct workplace audits, inspections and investigations (such as ICAM or 5 Why) General awareness of current Emergency Response / Medical practices Five years open cut mining experience in a mix of Health, Safety, Emergency Service, Training or similar roles Current Western Australian Drivers Licence.
First Aid qualifications are desirable.
Formal qualifications (or significant experience) in Occupational Health and Safety essential.
