Science Teacher (Physics) – Full-time, Ongoing
Mater Dei College has the opportunity for a full-time, ongoing Science Teacher (Physics), to become an integral part of the College’s Science Learning Area, commencing 1 January 2025.
We are seeking a vibrant, passionate, dedicated and confident individual who is committed to helping our students reach their full potential.
The Science Teacher will be responsible for a variety of tasks within the Science Learning Area that are inclusive of, but not limited to:
• Implementing effective teaching strategies to engage and challenge students of varying abilities to achieve specific learning outcomes.
• Fostering a stimulating, encouraging and inclusive classroom environment designed to support student growth.
• Planning and programming for classes within the Science Learning Area to promote learning and involvement.
• Assessing the performance of students in accordance with College procedures and where required, maintaining contact with parents regarding the performance and wellbeing of students.
• Meeting the deadlines set by the Head of Learning Area and College Executive.
Selection Criteria
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism whilst supporting the Catholic ethos and values of the College.
The successful applicant will also demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the current Western Australian Curriculum and will hold a tertiary qualification for Secondary Education, preferably in Science.
Demonstrated experience within the Science Learning Area will be viewed favourably, particularly Physics.
Graduate teachers are also encouraged to apply.
Qualifications Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, preferably in Science (Physics)
• Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) or equivalent
Terms of Employment
• Hold a current registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA)
• Hold a current Working with Children Check (WWC)
• Hold, or be working towards completion of, Accreditation to Teach in a Catholic School, Accreditation to Teach Religious Education or Accreditation for Leadership in Catholic Schools
• Annually complete Child Protection Procedures and Mandatory Reporting Training
High Desirable
• Knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum
• An understanding of current educational perspectives
• Experience working with high school students
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively with students, colleagues, parents/guardians and external partners
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong time management and organisational skills
• Strong problem solving and critical thinking abilities
