What’s the role? Working across the wider Sky News business, the Camera Operator will c ontribute to the creation and delivery of content for the day-to-day covering of news, including breaking news events, feature and long format stories and special event broadcasts. The role will require the individual to work with reporters, producers, and anchors to shoot live crosses, stories, interviews and crew on outside broadcasts. Key Responsibilities Provide camera coverage of news events, media conferences & interviews. Facilitate mixed multicamera setups for interviews and live remote program hosting. Use large sensor cameras for the shooting of long form content. Actively participate in communications with all areas of Sky News. Train and assist in the development of Video Journalists. Travel domestically and internationally for news events and feature stories, sometimes at short notice. Operate drones, Go Pros and Gimbals to enhance content creation. Collaborate with editorial staff, producers, and reporters on the creative enhancement of video content. Maintenance of camera equipment and assist Engineering in maintenance of camera equipment and vehicle. Work on outside, large-scale broadcasts. Proactively support and engage in work practices that contribute to the continuous improvement of the Sky News Camera Operations team. Who are you? Experience working as a camera operator, 2/3-inch cameras and full-frame camera experience essential. News gathering experience is preferable. Proven editing skills on Premiere Pro or similar platforms. Demonstrate knowledge of camera operations, including multicamera set ups. A strong interest in news and current affairs both domestic and International. An understanding of editorial requirements and long form programming Knowledge of a variety of technical equipment including LiveU/TUV, go pros, audio set ups and drones. Assist with the enhancement and streamlining of the camera department and its equipment. A creative eye for covering news and storytelling with production values and sequences. Ability to work with tight deadlines in a high-pressure environment. Comfortable working within a team environment while remaining responsible for your hours and equipment. Hold a current, unrestricted driver’s license. Eligibility to travel domestically and overseas with no restrictions when applying for international work permits. Availability to work a 24/7 flexible roster driven by the news cycle. Display a positive attitude, contribute creative ideas and be able to adapt to a rapidly changing work environment.
