The Service has 5 units (Anatomical Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Microbiology and Human Molecular Pathology). APS has the main laboratory at The Alfred as well as a small local laboratory at Sandringham hospital. APS has several collection centres and is responsible for collection of about 50% of its samples. A dedicated computing group supports the computing needs of APS. The services of APS include routine and esoteric laboratory testing with complete specialist support for test interpretation. The Role Alfred Health is looking for a part time (0.5 FTE) clinical nurse consultant to join our multiskilled transfusion team. The position is based at The Alfred, a tertiary hospital in the inner south with subspecialty expertise in trauma, solid organ and bone marrow transplantation, inherited bleeding disorders, HIV medicine and burns. The role encompasses promotion of safe and appropriate blood transfusion practice via staff training, education of consumers, adverse event monitoring and protocol development. Abilities to proactively manage practice change and liaise across different disciplines are essential. Ideal candidates would be articulate and passionate communicators with a focus on practice improvement. Prior experience in transfusion medicine would be an advantage, but is not mandatory.
