Background
ARWA is responsible for a responsible and sustainable approach for the long- term management and disposal of the Commonwealth's radioactive waste.
This involves developing and maintaining a social licence for radioactive waste
activities. Australia must manage waste in a way that sustains confidence from the IAEA, Australia's international partners and the international community and meets obligations under the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste and other non-proliferation, security and environmental obligations.
In order to deliver its program of works, demonstrate stewardship of these obligations and progress social licence ARWA needs to build and maintain constructive relationships across at all levels of government, academia and peak bodies.
ARWA requires assistance in establishing and strengthening with these stakeholders.
Required Services
The Department requires the services of a full-time hrs p/w) contractor with intra government relations expertise to be onsite for an initial term of 6 months from July 2023, with the possibility of one six-month extension, until July 2024.
Drawing on their senior executive level experience in the APS and their ability to identify, shape and influence opportunities, the contractor will develop a plan for
the purposes of progressing the ARWA program, building knowledge, cooperation and support of ARWA's work, and building and maintaining social licence with key stakeholders.
The plan will be designed to.
1. Support the ARWA to establish and strengthen connections across the
Industry portfolio and wider APS
2. Support the ARWA to establish and strengthen connections across academia and peak bodies
3. Support the ARWA to establish and strengthen connections across State and local government
4. Support the ARWA and out posted staff to strengthen connections with the Australian Submarine Agency.
On approval of the plan, work with the CEO and key staff in ARWA to implement the plan.
