Ally group is seeking a senior lawyer with a strong background in information law and employment law, to join an important federal government department.
This is a secondment opportunity, commencing immediately and concluding at the end of June 2025, with the possibility of further extension.
Ideal candidates will be able to work from the Canberra offices, full-time.
Off-site and part-time (3 to 4 days per week) arrangements, however, will also be considered for the right candidate.
Candidates must be an Australian citizen, admitted to practice law in Australia, and must have a minimum of 3 to 5 years of post-admission experience.
Successful candidates must have experience in:
processing FOI requests; preparing privacy and information-sharing advice, including on legislative information-sharing provisions.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
conducting legal research; providing advice; processing FOI requests (including redacting documents, drafting decisions, and providing advice); participating in client meetings; representing the team with internal stakeholders; engaging with external applicants when necessary.
The team responsibilities include:
providing legal advice on privacy, protected information, information sharing, and freedom of information (FOI) matters across the Department; addressing employee misconduct, performance, entitlements, human resources policies, public interest disclosures, work health and safety matters, and disputes brought before external bodies; working on public interest immunity claims and Senate Estimates.
