Katherine West Health Board (KWHB), established in 1998, is an industry-renowned provider of comprehensive, culturally secure primary health care services in the Northern Territory. As a fully accredited Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation, KWHB is funded by both Australian and Northern Territory Government healthcare grants. They deliver preventative, clinical, and emergency care across the remote outback region southwest of Katherine, with a focus on improving the health and wellbeing of all people in the area while providing a strong community voice in matters affecting their health.
KWHB also operates programs across the wider Big Rivers Region, which includes areas served by Wurli Wurlinjang Health Service (Wurli), Sunrise Health Service (Sunrise), and the Northern Territory Government (NT Health). The Big Rivers Region begins south of Kakadu National Park encompassing Pine Creek, then extends over 500 km south to Kalkaringi and stretches across the width of the Territory between the Western Australia and Queensland borders. The region is significant in scale, covering over 360,000 km2. There is a recognised need for service delivery organisations in the region to work in partnership to deliver effective outcomes for clients based on geographical locality and service delivery similarity. KWHB, Wurli, Sunrise and NT Health have secured funding to work in partnership to deliver the Big Rivers Supporting Recovery from Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence (FDSV) Program. Program funding is for 2 years.
