Job Title: Land Surveyor Job Requirements: Plans, coordinates, and supervises the activities of the Survey Section. Meets with the Field Survey Party Chiefs and their crews in the field to review work progress, discuss problems, provide supplies or special equipment, and keep abreast of surveying procedures. Plans each work assignment including meetings to discuss project concepts and to suggest changes when field conditions so warrant. Makes trips to the field when required. Provides all available information needed for the survey to the crew. Schedules work assignments for the field parties consistent with changing priorities, deadlines, and crew capabilities. Reviews all incoming job requests and makes the decision on the best and most economical means of accomplishing this work. Understands that survey project assignments may involve field survey work only or the survey may be accomplished by a combination of field survey and aerial survey methods. Reviews job record costs so that the best decision can be made for accomplishment of the survey work and assignment. Manages our on-call and consultant survey services. Assigns work to consultants, then reviews and approves their work orders for these same assignments. Coordinates pre-survey meetings with consultant engineering firms who are providing surveying and design services. Reviews consultant surveys to determine form and content. Coordinates survey activities with other bureaus in KDOT and with the Kansas Turnpike Authority (KTA) as needed. Responsible for other duties as assigned.
