About this part of our organisation:
Our Zinc Assets in Australia include multiple & geographically dispersed operations, including underground and open pit mines, processing plants and port facilities. Additionally we have operations across Asia, both North and South American continents and Europe. Mount Isa is home to the majority of our assets in Australia and this role is based residentially in Mount Isa or we may consider FIFO from Brisbane, Townsville or Cairns.
Mount Isa is one of the better facilitated mining towns around the country. With a local community of around 20,000 residents there are multiple choices of schools, supermarkets, and activities. From arts and culture to a thriving sporting community and more, it is the central hub for the surrounding area housing key government services for the region and hosting events such as the largest rodeo in the southern hemisphere.
About your potential new position:
Joining a sizable cohort of Health & Safety professionals and reporting to the Principal – Health & Hygiene, your primary purpose will be to have a positive impact on people lives as you focus on the identification, recognition, evaluation and control of workplace hazards and exposures.
To deliver on that purpose some of your responsibilities will be:
* Working closely with leaders in our business to limit and control workplace hazards and exposures.
* Continuing the development and facilitation of monitoring programs.
* Organising, supervising and/or conducting workplace exposure assessments.
* Compliance reporting through to assisting with product stewardship of the commodities we produce and the products we utilise.
* Keeping the business up to date with legislative changes
* Investigating and, where warranted, championing new and innovative ideas and technology to reduce risks and exposures.
What you will need to do the role:
* Tertiary or post graduate qualifications in Occupational Hygiene
* The ability to liaise and communicate effectively across multiple levels of the workforce, management, regulatory bodies, medical and health providers.
* Demonstrated experience in occupational hygiene principles, practice and application.
* Familiarisation with OHS systems, hazard identification and risk assessments.
Industry certifications and professional body membership will all be regarded but are not essential. Glencore has a long history of investing in our people and supporting professional development.
