About the Role
The Registered Nurse (RN) position is a clinical role responsible for direct clinical care under the management of the Nurse Manager. As an RN, you will be required to utilise a wide range of interventions to assist people withdrawing and/or stabilising from alcohol and/or other drugs. The focus of this role is supporting clients within a bio-psycho-social framework throughout the withdrawal process and introducing them to options and skills to facilitate change. You will play a key role as part of the multidisciplinary team in delivering a high standard of direct client care with a focus on withdrawal management, recovery and harm reduction.
This role will be key to ensure the CRWU provides a range of interventions that deliver appropriate services to the client group. In particular, this position will ensure the implementation of a range of therapeutic interventions that:
* Facilitate safe management of withdrawal from substances
* Aim to reduce harms related to substance use
* Improve mental and physical health
* Enable the smooth running of the unit including the admission and discharge of clients, ordering and unpacking food and supplies
* Ensure a therapeutic milieu on the unit
* Facilitate the group program
* Collaborate with the client/carers and other key stakeholders to achieve significant treatment goals and the formulation of an individualised support plan
* Act as a mentor for junior staff and students
* Act in charge when required
This role will work a full rotating roster including weekends and night shifts. Applicants seeking full-time or part-time employment will be considered.
About Community Residential Withdrawal Unit
The CRWU is affiliated with a hospital-based addiction medicine service, and is under the clinical governance of the Monash Health Drug & Alcohol Services Unit Head. The service is a 12 bed, short-stay alcohol, tobacco and other drug withdrawal unit that admits adult clients who are withdrawing and/or stabilising from a variety and often combination of substances.
Monash Health Drug & Alcohol Service (MHDAS) operationally reports through the Mental Health Program of Monash Health and is committed to providing opportunities for change and growth by reducing drug use, the harms from drug use, improving physical and mental health, and reconnecting and or maintaining people’s connections to their family and the community.
The principle catchment areas are the Cities of Greater Dandenong, Casey and the Shire of Cardinia with sites located in Dandenong, Pakenham, Cranbourne and Berwick. The service employs approximately 75 EFT of multidisciplinary clinicians, including those with lived experience, across a wide range of services including:
* Community Residential Withdrawal
* Primary Health Clinic
* Needle Syringe Program – fixed site and Outreach
* Mobile Overdose Response & Naloxone Service
* Mobile Drug Safety
* Youth Supported Accommodation and Outreach
* Peer Led Network trials
* Assessment, Counselling and Non-residential withdrawal (SECADA)
* Way Out Day Program
The Southern Dual Diagnosis Service is closely aligned with the Monash Health Drug & Alcohol Service and is a resource for all MHDAS staff offering support in further development to recognise and respond effectively to persons presenting with co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns.
