Classification: LEC1Salary Range: $71,903 - $78,045Duration: Up to 2 yearsVacancy Type: Full TimeNumber of Positions Available: 1Closing Date: 11:30pm, Thursday 6 February 2025About the OpportunityAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a new graduate or junior practitioner to join the Public Law Section (PLS) of the Crown Solicitor's Office to work within the Solicitor-General's chambers.The Solicitor-General is the Government's leading advocate, advising on complex administrative and constitutional law issues, and representing the State of South Australia in sensitive matters in courts and tribunals, including constitutional matters heard in the High Court of Australia.The successful applicant will work closely with the Solicitor-General and the Special Counsel to the Solicitor-General, providing high-quality legal research, drafting, and advice for matters on which the Solicitor-General is briefed, as well as providing limited administrative assistance to chambers.
Additional opportunities will arise to undertake advice and advocacy work within the broader section, including advice to various government agencies and advocacy on matters in courts and tribunals, particularly SACAT.
The successful applicant will bring a keen interest and understanding of constitutional and administrative law, an enquiring mind for research or writing tasks, and a positive team-based work ethic.
The successful applicant will also benefit from mentorship and leadership provided by the Solicitor-General, Special Counsel, and the relevant Executive Solicitor within PLS, emphasizing performance development and career growth.Options for flexible working arrangements, excellent physical facilities including end-of-trip facilities, and a thriving social environment also serve as additional reasons to apply.Special Conditions for EmploymentEmployment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory.
