The Role The duties you could expect to undertake as a Data Engineer are:
Design and implement complex data flows to connect operational systems, together with data for analytics and business intelligence systems, whilst ensuring data security and governance. Manage the design, development and maintenance of enterprise data warehouse and data engineering solutions. Work with stakeholders to assemble large, complex data sets that meet their current and potential requirements. Manage the build of data streaming systems. Perform root cause analysis on data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement. Manage the development of data engineering frameworks and best practices for processes aimed at enhancing the availability, security and performance of data assets. Data model development and/or improvements to address business requirements. Develop a schedule of work and report on progress. As a team or technical leader in Data Engineering, you will be responsible for:
Oversight, designing, developing, and supporting ASD data pipelines. Data processing systems to deliver mission data outcomes in accordance with our legislative, policy and ethical frameworks. You will use your leadership, technical insights and data engineering skills to transform and integrate data using a variety of data sources, platforms and data models. Develop data capabilities according to the needs of MDD stakeholders. Leadership, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential as you apply your technical skills and knowledge to a range of data engineering tasks and a constantly evolving technology ecosystem. You will be a leader in a multi-disciplinary environment, responsible for some of ASD's most important data capabilities that support intelligence, cyber security, and offensive cyber operations.
About our Team Mission Data (MD) Division within the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is responsible for providing the foundational data capabilities to support all of ASD's functions. We do this via the provision of data platforms and services, management of ASD's mission data, and providing complex analytic development and support, including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning capabilities. All roles within MD require extensive knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence's mission and policies requirements.
