The Role Reporting to Manager Field Services Substations, the Senior Commissioning Engineer is responsible for ensuring substation primary plant and secondary systems are commissioned in accordance with appropriate policies and procedures.
The role provides a professional technical consultancy and management service to internal and external customers through the application of well developed engineering capability.
About You You are an experienced Senior Commissioning Engineer with a detailed knowledge of 11kV-275kV primary plant and applied project management skills in the management of substation, communications, control and transmission line projects by providing estimates for project works and coordinating activities with numerous other work groups in order to meet project safety, cost, quality and time targets.
You have a proven ability to influence project outcomes and resolve technical problems through technical innovation and utilising advanced teamwork, communication and inter-personal skills.
You have demonstrated knowledge of the safety requirements associated with High Voltage substations and associated substation plant commissioning.
Some of your accountabilities include: Manage the commissioning and integration of substation projects through provision of testing and commissioning services by internal staff and external contractors, ensuring procedural compliance and risk analysis components are delivered efficiently, within scope.
Provides professional engineering advice relating to substation commissioning and maintenance requiring proficiency in engineering techniques and methods, which may be subject to review.
Contribute to developing the capability peers and other employees through the provision of supervision, coaching, and mentoring where required.
Develop commissioning plans, outage plans, inspection and test plans and secondary works programs for staging and management of substation primary plant and secondary system commissioning projects Analyse and approve test results, witness tests and carry out audit testing; conduct technical, quality, environmental and workplace health and safety audits as required, including audits of external contractors.
Manage contracts for provision of external construction, testing and commissioning services including acting as Superintendent's Representative.
This work includes detailed technical management of primary and secondary electrical interfaces between new works and the operational network.
Investigate new technologies and review of existing systems including providing recommendations on use of and development of engineering tools Investigate forced plant outages and coordinate corrective actions; monitor, audit and implement continuous improvement plans Prepare complex engineering reports and technical documentation subject to review Works collaboratively across EQL to effectively manage information and confidentiality requirements across Energy Queensland Limited in accordance with applicable ring-fencing parameters.

Compliance with all relevant legislation, policies, procedures and practices Essentials Bachelor's degree in Engineering acceptable for membership of Institution of Engineers Australia in the Professional Engineering category Registration as Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) is required for appointment into this position and successful candidate will need to attain registration as a Professional Engineer in Queensland (RPEQ) or hold CPEng and be eligible to obtain RPEQ Status.
