Its purpose is to ensure that Aboriginal people enjoy the capabilities and opportunities necessary to make positive choices that lead to independent, fulfilling lives.Wunan Health is about to provide a new six bed Alcohol and other Drug withdrawal Program in Kununurra. Wunan Health, is seeking to recruit a team of Health workers, supporting our Doctors to help people to reduce or cease harmful use of alcohol and other drugs.Key Duties:• Co-ordinate and support intake, assessment, care co-ordination and discharge planning of Residents in the Kununurra Withdrawal Intervention Centre (KWIC).Provide high-quality nursing care to residents of the KWIC, in collaboration with the KWIC and Wunan Health team.•Collaborate with GP’s and other health service providers in care coordination.•Administer, supervise and monitor the use of medication for withdrawal management and other regular medications. Keep accurate records on medication charts and in Schedule 4-8 Medication record book.•Monitor the condition of residents undergoing withdrawal. This includes use of established withdrawal scales. •In consultation with the KWIC Manager, refer the consumer to other health services (including hospitals), if their condition changes and they require more intensive medical care. •Liaise with GPs, DACAS (Drug and Alcohol Advisory Service, Poisons line, Health Direct or Mental Health Emergency Response line(MHERL) if required.•Participate in prosocial interventions within the LMWU.•Complete all documentation as required in a timely manner.•Comply with KWIC/ Wunan Health governance.•Provide discharge summaries to key stakeholders.•Provide harm-reduction information and referrals to consumers.Requirements of the roleEssential Criteria:
Approved tertiary qualification in nursing
Current and on-going registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a registered Nurse.
Knowledge of psychiatric medications and medication management
Understanding and ability to apply recovery principles to treatment.
Qualifications in Health or related discipline
Training in or experience with alcohol and other drug services
Previous experience within a care, hospitality or health service
Experience working with consumers from diverse backgrounds and different cultural groups.
Strong interpersonal skills to negotiate, mediate and resolve conflict.
Ability to De-escalate
Ability to work in a team
Desirable criteria:
Previous experience with alcohol and other drug withdrawal services
Aboriginal Australian
A strong understanding of Indigenous people in general and or the remote communities of the Kimberley's.
