The Laundry Attendant Leading Hand is responsible for overseeing the effective operation of the laundry to a high standard which meets/exceeds the expectations of people in our care. This includes ensuring that laundry functions for washing, drying, ironing/steaming, sorting, folding, and distribution of linen and clothing occurs with care, respect, and efficiency and in line with Lutheran Aged Care's mission, vision, and values.
Key Responsibilities Oversee delivery of an efficient laundry service for the residential facility. Achieve minimal equipment 'down time' and appropriate allocation of staff. Ensure that approved processes are actioned by staff in accordance with laundry schedules and procedures. Participate in and coordinate regular inspections and reviews of laundry services to ensure a consistently high standard. Update and coordinate laundry distribution lists. In conjunction with the Environmental Services Supervisor: Participate in responding to issues raised or complaints in a timely manner and provide written feedback to relevant parties. Raise and assist in resolving issues relating to equipment functionality. Contribute to the development of improvement initiatives and change management projects as directed. Monitor and raise requests for supplies of laundry chemicals and other items. Participate in the sourcing, screening, interviewing, and selection of new staff as requested. Provide Environmental Services Supervisor with information to support: Effective rostering of staff to achieve business needs and employment agreements. Staff development, performance feedback discussions, and resolution of staff issues in line with WHS, bullying, harassment, and equal employment best practice. Resolution of issues, general improvements, and communication of expectations. Participate in laundry activities relating to outbreak management. Coordinate missing item returns, trollies, and notifications. Ensure equipment programs are utilised as directed and all staff are trained in proper use of equipment. Maintain current knowledge of best practice standards and latest techniques and materials available, as relevant. Participate in regular staff meetings to ensure staff are informed of policies, procedures, and issues; ensure an open, consultative forum for staff to participate in Hotel Service's initiatives. Liaise with Hotel Services Manager and Environmental Services Supervisor regarding training and development activities of staff. Ensure services are consistent and compliant with LAC policies and procedures; Aged Care Quality Standards and regulations, including those relating to infection control. Selection Criteria Previous experience overseeing and coordinating laundry teams to achieve high-quality results in a demanding service environment. Substantial experience in all facets of laundry, including relevant best practice. Strong customer service ethic and stakeholder engagement skills. Strong communication skills, written and verbal. Intermediate IT skills (systems, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel). Experience and understanding of operational WHS requirements for cleaning and laundry services. Demonstrated behaviours that align with LAC values. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive and personal information relating to people in our care. Optional Demonstrated awareness of aged care quality standards and processes. Experience with commercial washing and drying equipment. Experience in coordinating pick and delivery in line with LAC policies and procedures. Experience training staff in laundry operations.
