Key responsibilities will include : Serve as the primary point of contact for negotiating and drafting commercial research agreements, ensuring compliance with UQ policies, legal requirements, and partner expectations. Establish and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, facilitating open dialogue and collaboration to drive successful research partnerships. Evaluate proposals, pricing structures, intellectual property considerations, and legal ramifications, working closely with Legal Services, Governance & Risk, and UniQuest to structure agreements that minimise risk and maximise research impact. Advise researchers on contractual milestones, post-execution performance, and best practices in research commercialisation while contributing to training initiatives on commercial principles and UQ’s business frameworks. About Research Office and HMBS The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) is a member of the University’s Senior Executive and has responsibility for enhancing the university’s performance and reputation in research, research training, and research collaboration with external stakeholders, nationally and internationally. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) is supported by the staff in the UQ Research and Innovation portfolio. Proven ability to engage effectively with industry and research partners, building strong relationships to facilitate successful research collaborations. Strong knowledge of intellectual property management, legal frameworks, and knowledge transfer processes relevant to research commercialisation. Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to draft, review, and interpret complex agreements while liaising effectively with legal and governance teams. Demonstrated project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work autonomously, and deliver high-quality outcomes under tight deadlines. A postgraduate qualification in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and extensive experience in research commercialisation, contract management, or a related area. The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia and a criminal check.
