About the Role
Reporting to the Manager: Research Projects Management, you will be responsible for a wide range of legal administration and contract review activities to support the UniSA Research Offices objectives. You will provide expedient strategic review, interpretation and advice on research funding agreements and associated legislative requirements. You will be required to liaise with professional service areas of the university, granting agencies, partner research organisations, industry partners and researchers to minimize risk and enforce consistent contract provisions.
About the UniSA Research Office
The UniSA Research Office (URO) provides support for the management of research, and administers sponsored research projects, along with contract research and consultancy agreements. It is also responsible for ensuring the responsible and ethical conduct of research, and for developing and implementing strategic initiatives to improve the quality of the experience and outcomes for postgraduate research students.
The Research Contracts Team provides strategic, legal and operational support to the Director, URO and URO senior management to support the core functions of URO in support of responsible, compliant and ethical conduct of research. The team works closely with researchers and stakeholders in the preparation, review, negotiation, and execution (in accordance with the University’s delegation framework) of various types of research contracts, including both standard form contracts and bespoke research agreements.

Essential Skills and Experience
1. A tertiary law degree or recognised legal, paralegal, or business qualifications and demonstrated relevant expertise in legal review and advice, drafting, negotiating, administering, and advising on contracts
2. A good working knowledge of contract law and commercial contracting with demonstrated ability to critique legal documents and provide feedback to key stakeholders such as professional, administrative, legal, and academic staff across the research ecosystem
3. Highly developed interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, build and maintain external relationships (with funding bodies other universities, industry partners and other external partners) and proactively liaise across functional areas of the University
4. Ability to apply initiative, judgment and problem-solving skills in contracting in the research context, including initiative and sound judgement in interpretation and application of a broad range of internal and external policies, procedures, guidelines and legal and legislative frameworks that apply in the contracting and research context
5. Well-developed skills in time management, priority setting, ongoing communication and organisation, with exceptional attention to detail and demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively under pressure to meet deadlines
