As a member of the Occupational Therapy team, you will provide patient centred, evidence based clinical care on the subacute medical ward.The Occupational Therapy department at Mater Health provides public and private health services across a range of clinical specialties.
These include general medical, general surgical, orthopaedics, neurosciences, cancer care, lymphoedema, psychosocial/mental health and neonatology and paediatrics.
The team encompasses both Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants and deliver services within inpatient, outpatient and telehealth settings.ResponsibilitiesIndependently undertake routine clinical practice within established clinical protocols to achieve patient focussed outcomes.Apply increasing clinical judgement to more complex cases under clinical practice supervision.Provide delegation, supervision, training and support to less experienced health practitioners, allied health assistants, students, support staff and volunteers in the delivery of clinical services.Contribute to the development of clinical practices, procedures and protocols within professional and multidisciplinary teams.Actively participate in translating research into practice.Identify, develop and participate in quality and service improvement activities to continually improve clinical services and patient outcomes.Actively participate in professional and multidisciplinary teams, and liaise with patients, their families/carers and external agencies to facilitate patient centred care.Participate in continuing professional development activities to further develop clinical practice and expertise.Contribute to the learning and development of the team through clinical education and clinical supervision.About YouThe successful applicant will possess:Essential QualificationsBachelor of Occupational Therapy or Master of Occupational Therapy.Eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).Eligibility to receive a Medicare provider number.Skills, Knowledge and ExperienceDemonstrated knowledge, expertise and skill in delivering assessment and intervention in the acute and subacute general medical clinical area of occupational therapy.Demonstrated ability to apply occupational therapy principles to occupational therapy clinical services in an acute hospital environment.Flexibility to work across other acute hospital areas (e.g.
orthopaedics, oncology).Demonstrated clinical practice and application of clinical judgement in the provision of high quality, evidence based, patient centred care.Effective communication skills and demonstrated ability to work co-operatively with professional and multi-disciplinary teams, patients and carers to achieve optimal outcomes.Demonstrated ability or ability to rapidly acquire skills to identify, develop and participate in quality and service improvement activities that improve clinical services and patient outcomes.Mater is Queensland's largest and most innovative not-for-profit healthcare service, providing care for almost 700,000 patients a year across a network of 11 hospitals.We are a leader in healthcare, education and research — and that's because we employ exceptional people.
