The Role
The Aerodromes Certification Engineer is the principal engineering manager for RAAF Aerodrome Certifications IAW DASR.139 and applicable aerodrome standards.
They are responsible for RAAF Aerodromes initial certification, including the sustainment of certification across the National Airbase Network. Supporting the Chief Aerodromes Engineer to establish and oversee the functioning of the Aerodrome Certification Support Network to provide Aerodromes that support safe flight operations.
Key liaison with regulatory bodies and external agencies, such as DASA and SEG, on DASR.139 certification requirements to ensure:
1. An Authority-agreed Certification Basis (CB) for the aerodrome has been defined.
2. The aerodrome design and construction complies with the agreed CB.
3. Arrangements are implemented to support continued aerodrome compliance with the CB.
4. Design information to support continuing safe operation of the aerodrome is provided to the relevant stakeholders.
5. Oversight and review activities are undertaken to provide ongoing assurance of the aerodrome certificate.
6. Non-compliances against the aerodrome certification basis are examined and manage the impact to aerodrome certification.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability.
