Key competencies
1. Ability to participate in an established roster covering a range of shifts within the hours of 0600-1630 weekdays and 0600-1100 on weekends and public holidays .
2. Flexibility to work additional hours or extra shifts where necessary to support patient care.
3. Reliable & punctual
4. Ability to successfully perform phlebotomy on neonates, paediatric, adult, and geriatric patients in a busy public hospital environment.
5. Prioritise inpatient and outpatient workloads to meet Turn Around Times, averaging 7 or more collections per hour on each shift.
6. Use of an integrated electronic Medical Record system and a Laboratory Information System or the ability to quickly learn those systems.
7. Communicate clearly, calmly, and respectfully with supervisors, colleagues, patients, and clients.
8. An established history of positive teamwork, respectful behaviour, and above-average attendance
9. Knowledge or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations, pathology terminology and abbreviations, test names and specimen types.
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements
10. A Certificate III in Pathology Collection or equivalent or higher would be highly regarded.
11. Previous experience, especially in paediatric phlebotomy, would be highly regarded.
12. The candidate will be required to stand or walk for most of the shift, up to 8 hours or more at times, while moving a trolley carrying required IT equipment and blood collection equipment around the wards
