Building Commission NSW is looking for a Director Building Compliance to lead a large team responsible for site inspections and desktop audits associated with the Home Building Act, the Design and Building Practitioners Act, the Residential Apartment Buildings (Compliance and Enforcement Powers) Act, and the Building and Development Certifiers Act. About the role The Director Building Compliance plays a critical role within the Building Commission NSW and has a direct impact on the quality of housing in NSW. We're seeking a dynamic individual to lead diverse teams of technical and compliance staff responsible for inspecting class 1, 2, 3, and 9c buildings and the work of certifiers. Reporting to the Assistant Building Commissioner, you will successfully align and deliver compliance operations within the broader context of the Commission's operational strategy, the priorities of the NSW Government, and community expectations. Deliver proactive compliance programs and respond to customer complaints. Lead teams through legislative reforms and changes to operational procedures. Ensure staff are well-trained and supported so our technical knowledge is current and responds to industry innovation. Work with operational and technical staff across other business units (e.g., complaints, licensing, investigations, communications, data). Handle complex and sensitive projects involving a range of external and internal stakeholders. Help to educate industry professionals to reduce non-compliance by improving awareness, uplifting capabilities, and skills. The Ideal Candidate will have operational experience leading large and dispersed teams, with a compliance or regulatory focus. They will also understand the foundations of Building Commission NSW established by the Construct NSW transformation strategy. Does this sound like you? Demonstrated ability to set and deliver compliance programs. Knowledge of the National Construction Code, Australian standards, and NSW's building and planning laws. Strong leadership and managerial skills, with experience leading large and dispersed teams. A team player who works collaboratively with their staff and colleagues. Clear communicator who can build relationships with key industry stakeholders. Note: we are currently undergoing Baseline Vetting to a PROTECTED level with NSWPF. Baseline vetting will be required to access NSWPF COPS system.
