We are seeking a Data Officer to undertake a 6 month temporary assignment with Queensland Government. The objective of this project is to clean and standardise the data stored in Lotus Notes to enhance data reporting capabilities and establish consistent data entry practices.
Ideally, you will hold a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics or a related field. Duties include: Data Identification & Collection:• Locate and gather data from various sources (databases, spreadsheets, APIs, etc.)• Understand the data's origin, structure, and intended use.Data Quality Assessment:• Analyse data for errors, inconsistencies, and inaccuracies.• Identify and flag duplicate records, missing values, and invalid entries.• Check for data type mismatches (e.g., text in a number field).Data Cleaning & Transformation:• Data Deduplication: Remove duplicate records to ensure data accuracy.• Data Correction: Fix errors in data fields (e.g., typos, incorrect formatting).• Data Standardization: Ensure consistent data formats across different sources (e.g., date formats, address styles).• Data Enrichment: Add missing data points by cross-referencing with external sources.• Data Transformation: Convert data into a usable format for analysis (e.g., aggregating data, creating new variables).Data Validation & Verification:• Perform quality checks to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the cleaned data.• Run data validation tests to identify and correct any remaining issues.Data Documentation & Reporting:• Maintain detailed records of all data cleaning activities.• Generate reports on data quality issues and the effectiveness of cleaning processes.To be considered for this opportunity, you should demonstrate: Experience in data management, quality assurance, data stewardship, or a related role (minimum 3 years).Broad technology understanding of how data is captured, generated, stored, and used in systems.Previous experience of being able to manage and influence change to drive continuous improvement within a data-driven role.Superior analytical skills to diagnose problems, resolve issues and develop practical solutions.Comfort in analysing and interpreting multiple data sets, doing gap analyses, documenting findings, and providing recommendations.Understanding of industry standard data governance framework/standards.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.We are seeking availability to commence as soon as possible and remuneration will be negotiable based on skills and experience.
