Project OverviewBechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets. Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world. Job SummaryIn this role, you will determine work scope and cost estimates for a project's civil aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, evaluation, and constructability reviews of civil components and processes. Your technical expertise will ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project's civil aspects are met. This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership. Major ResponsibilitiesPlans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the civil engineering work for a project, including the preparation of original designs, layouts, details, drawings and specifications for structures, building, roadways, railroads, etc. Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates Civil / Structural components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) and Design Control Check List (DCCL) and Design Review Notices (DRNs). Designs civil / structural scope elements using advanced knowledge of structural analysis, including statics, dynamics, and materials engineering. Determines the appropriate use of various structural elements such as steel, wood, masonry, and concrete to ensure appropriate material is used based on load or stress requirements. Originates and checks complex structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions. Analyses problems with conflicting design requirements, sketches ideas and possible solutions. Analyses and reports on the suitability of unconventional materials, techniques and/or difficult coordination requirements. Plans, coordinates, or prepares equipment, work and material specifications, bid evaluations and award recommendations. Prepares procurement and subcontract requisition documents and performs associated technical bid evaluations with award recommendations. Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project Civil/Structural requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution. Education And Experience RequirementsRequires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience. Required Knowledge And SkillsDemonstrated experience as a Civil Engineer, preferably within mining and metals industry. Prior experience in the design of: bulk and detailed earthworks onsite roads site drainage and water management facilities Broad knowledge of industry / regulatory codes and standards, and design and/or layout criteria pertinent to the civil discipline. Seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization, resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways. Able to be registered as an RPEQ, or already registered as RPEQ is preferable. Proficiency in oral and written communication. Working Rights in Australia without employer sponsorship are required.
