Management Accountant Inland RailInland Rail is a once-in-a-generation project that will complete the backbone of Australia's freight rail network. It will enhance supply chains by providing a transit time of 24 hours or less for freight trains between Melbourne and Brisbane. Inland Rail will connect regional Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland to markets more efficiently, drive substantial cost savings for producers and consumers, and deliver significant economic benefits. Inland Rail is the largest freight rail infrastructure project in Australia and one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the world.About the opportunityWe are seeking a dedicated professional to manage and report on the financial performance of assigned Delivery stages and enabling areas within the Inland Rail Program. Reporting to the Manager Functional Accounting, you will ensure the quality of transactional financial data and reporting across all systems. Your efforts will facilitate the production of valuable management accounting information and support valued analysis to key stakeholders.Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Prepare monthly forecasts and reporting in an accurate and timely manner for projects and/or functional areas of the Inland Rail Program including end of month variance and trend analysis, forecasting and budgeting.Oversee and facilitate the collection and processing of all inputs to the monthly reporting process including accruals, transfer journals, scope changes through trend and change, forecasts and budgets. This includes closing Actual Cost of Work Performed (ACWP) and forecasts via the Cost Control System (CCS) and Ci Financials for assigned cost centers and projects in a timely and accurate manner meeting both Inland Rail and ARTC monthly timetable.Regularly and independently review areas of major expenditure and variances to budget providing reconciliations and improvement suggestions to the relevant Finance Manager, Function Manager and/or Project Manager.Provide user support including individual coaching for the system actuals, forecasting, trend & change, and contract establishment and management tools within the CCS (Cost and Contracts System) lifecycle cost management system including PRISM.Ensure accuracy of financial information including consistency with the reporting hierarchy, expenditure classification policies and Cost Breakdown Structures.Manage financial transactions including leases and fixed assets within the Inland Rail Program through the completion of the appropriate forms, creation of asset register details, and liaison with the corporate accounting team.Ensure compliance with internal Inland Rail and ARTC control accounting procedures and practices. About YouThe successful candidate will demonstrate high levels of both oral and written communication capability and strong interpersonal abilities. Key traits will include financial acumen, attention to detail, problem solving and effective collaboration.To ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate: Tertiary qualifications in accounting or business-related discipline; membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants or the Australian Society of CPA's or proven relevant experience.Experience in the management accounting, budget, forecast and cost functions of a commercial organisation.Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, good interpersonal and negotiating skills.Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.Extensive knowledge of spreadsheets and large automated accounting systems. Desirable Selection Criteria Sound knowledge of and experience with complex financial information systems.Management performance reporting experience.
