The Director of Medical Education, Rural, is a senior academic leadership position within the School of Clinical Medicine, Rural Clinical Campuses (RCC) responsible for the operational leadership of academic activities at the identified rural campus and the delivery of our world class Medicine program with a rural community health focus. The position holder will demonstrate a commitment to high quality teaching, developing and leading a comprehensive education program through a culture of best practice that supports students, academics, professional and technical staff. The role requires a close and collaborative working relationship with the Associate Dean Rural Health–Head, Rural Clinical Campuses, the Manager Rural Clinical Campuses, and other senior academic and professional staff within the RCC and Faculty, as well as senior staff within the Local Health District and Primary Health networks. Leading a unified UNSW presence at the identified Rural Clinical Campuses location and enhancing the profile of UNSW in teaching and rurally focussed research and projects is a priority. The position will bring together and build strong relationships with key stakeholders to establish rural specific course material and research initiatives that support local rural health objectives and the development of Health, Education and Research capabilities in the region. The position reports to the Associate Dean Rural Health–Head, Rural Clinical Campuses and has a number of up direct reports. Skills Required: An MBBS and a Fellowship of a Specialist Medical College (including but not limited to ACEM, ACRRM, RACP, RACGP, RANZCOG, RACS), and eligible for medical registration in New South Wales. Demonstrated experience in a particular field of medicine and a commitment to high quality rurally focussed teaching. Evidence and maintenance of professional development in pedagogy, disciplinary knowledge and professional accreditation requirements. A proven commitment to excellence in teaching and supervision at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level with a passion for rural health education. A record of successful interaction with Local Health District, Specialist Colleges, professional and training organisations, and other internal and external stakeholders. Highly developed interpersonal skills to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives. At Level D (in addition to the above): A record of distinguished scholarship, including the capacity for cross-disciplinary collaboration, and a strong clinical background and senior professional standing in a relevant medical discipline. Evidence of superior leadership skills in the broader health environment and a record of solid achievement in academic and professional environments.
