Hays is currently seeking a PO3/PO4 Agricultural Economist or Senior Agricultural Economist for a full-time temporary contract position located in Charters Towers. The successful candidate will join a dedicated team until June 2025, with the possibility of extension. Candidates based in Charters Towers or Townsville are encouraged to apply. Your new role: This position focuses on Rural Economic Development. You will work on various projects aimed at improving profitability and sustainability within the agriculture sector. The primary responsibility is the economic evaluation of new technologies and management practices in sugarcane and other cropping production systems. Key Responsibilities: Lead projects to deliver high-quality economic evaluations and communicate information that enhances profitability and sustainability. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with landholders, industry organisations, colleagues, natural resource management groups, universities, and other government agencies. Develop bio-economic models and use other economic analysis methods to assess agricultural production activities, natural resource management initiatives, and policy analysis (e.g., gross margin analysis, cost-benefit analysis, partial budgeting). Use appropriate economic methodologies to analyse project data promptly, ensuring milestones are met, and prepare case study reports, papers, and other communication materials. Undertake projects and activities as required, self-organising workflow priorities and projects to ensure outcomes are achieved.
