The role is based in Charters Towers, a rural city approximately 1 hour inland from Townsville in Tropical North Queensland.Charters Towers Veterinary Service is a true rural Queensland mixed practice, servicing pets, horses and beef cattle stations in the surrounding area and beyond. The team is made up of three to four veterinarians and six veterinary nurses and receptionists. The clinic offers all of the expected routine and preventative care services for pets and horses, such as vaccination, desexing and dentistry, along with emergency treatment of medical and surgical cases. There is also a growing equine reproductive service. We also provide pregnancy testing, bull fertility testing and ambulatory cattle services including obstetrics.The clinic was purpose built in 2019. It boasts a beautiful, open plan with shiny new facilities and plenty of space. We have IDEXX in house pathology lab, wireless DR xray, large and small animal ultrasound, IM3 dental suite including dental xray, indoor horse crush at the clinic and mobile horse crush and dental kit including power float. For the right candidate, this may also include joining our leadership team and contributing to the future direction of TVS and our strategic planning.In the clinic, a typical day may include:Routine and first opinion small animal consultations including vaccinations and health checks, skin conditions, lameness, ear and eye consultations, sick animals, tick paralysis, snake bites and other emergency presentations.Routine small animal surgery and procedures, including desexings, lump removals, dentistry and wound treatments.A farm visit to a local beef producer to pregnancy test a mob of cattle, check a sore eye, assist pulling a malpresented calf, or fertility test some bulls;Ambulatory equine farm visits, including colic management, stitch ups, ophthalmic conditions, vaccinations, dentistry and other first opinion visits.Our ideal candidates will be passionate about mixed practice and ready to step up to a leadership and mentoring role.To thrive in this role, you should be a confident yet humble veterinarian, who can relate to people from all walks of life and have strong interpersonal skills.
